This special night will celebrate the the long awaited NYC return of
"Nu Soul" supergroup Silhouette Brown. Flying high off the critical
acclaim of their newly released second album two, Silhouette Brown is
produced by the trilogy that is Dego(2000black/4hero), Kaidi Tatham
(2000black/Agent K/Bugz In The Attic) and Bembe Segue, who adds her
distinctive co-writing/production talent. Joining them on the new album
and on stage is the powerhouse vocalist from Philly, Lady Alma. "Tha
Lady" has appeared on countless club classics from Sylk130’s ‘When the
Funk Hits The Fan’ to the Mercury Award nominated 4hero’s ‘Hold It
Down’.

On the decks for the night is one of Chi town's own, Ron Trent
(Prescription Records). This legendary DJ/Producer that has been making
a mark on the Deep House/Global Soul scene since the ‘90’s, and is
considered one of the architects of the Chicago music scene. From his
popular residencies at Giant Step Weekly Sessions and AFRICA HI FI, to
his incredible production on tracks by Amel Larrieux, Jody Watley and
Carl Hancock Rux, Ron is a true musical force of nature.

On Thursday, May 14th the party that Time Out NY calls "a full-on throwdown" will celebrate the birthday of its esteemed resident dj, the incomparable Ian Friday. This amazing night of music will be taken to the next level with a live performance by the critically acclaimed husband and wife duo Kindred the Family Soul!

Signed to Hidden Beach Recordings, Kindred emerged from the Philadelphia neo soul movement that also includes Jill Scott, who discovered them while the couple was performing at the Black Lily Film & Music Festival.

Hidden Beach issued their debut album Surrender to Love in February 2003, which included, among others, the songs "Rhythm of Life" and "Far Away". Their follow-up album was 2005's In This Life Together spawning the single "Where Would I Be (The Question)".

The duo were nominated for a Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B/Soul Album, Group Band or Duo for Surrender to Love in 2004 and a BET Award for the BET J Cool Like That Award in 2006. The group's third LP, The Arrival, was released in 2008 and includes the the single "House of Love" which has been given a Tea Party Music remix by Ian Friday himself. On Thursday, April 9th Libation will heat up NYC nightlife once again when resident dj and global soul guru Ian Friday shares the decks with one of Baltimore's finest, DJ Oji (Poji Records). On Saturday, February 21st, Sol Ascension welcomes the return of the artist that Gilles Peterson calls'...the man behind a million great tunes', acclaimed producer/musician/dj MARK de CLIVE-LOWE. His incredible performance at the Sol Ascension launch party last November is one that has gone down in NYC nightlife folklore. Mark's 2005 smash album TIDES ARISING is now a future soul classic as are his brilliant remixes for the likes of Jody Watley, Omar and Brazilian superstar Ed Motta. His latest solo release is the Japanese exclusive JOURNEY 2 THE LIGHT (Freedom School Records) featuring Bembe Segue, Jason Yarde and Sammy Figueroa (Miles Davis). Can you believe that we’re at the end of 2008?! It came waaaay too fast! This past year was bananas for me and highlighted by Barack Obama’s historic election, Libation’s move from Sapphire Lounge to Sullivan Room, the birth of Sol Ascension at SOB’S, and the release of the My Mind’s I EP on Mixtape Sessions Music. 2009 is going to be even better and we’re starting it off with a bang!!!

On Thursday, January 8th, Libation will return to Sullivan Room in a major way! For its first party of 09 resident DJ and global soul guru Ian Friday will be joined on the decks by one of the worlds most respected dj’s, Tony Humphries. In his long and acclaimed career, this legend has held down residencies at New Jersey’s Club Zanzibar, London’s Ministry of Sound and Italy’s Echoes. On the music front, I will have my first release of the year out on Deepa Grooves called "Natural High". Look for it in January on Traxsource.com. Also, I’ll be performing live next month, bringing the global soul experience to Jersey with DJ Ian Friday and Afro Mosaic Soul. Details for this event will soon come.

Also, people have been asking about what’s going on this weekend and for New Year’s Eve. I will be laying low to get ready for 2009, but strongly recommend checking out Deepa Grooves at Public Assembly this Saturday night in Williamsburg. wanted to give you the lowdown on some upcoming events that you
simply should not miss!

First, let me send a shout to my fellow Sagittarians! I will be celebrating my
birthday this coming Thursday at our final Libation of the year. On this
night resident DJ Ian Friday will rock the Sullivan Room all night long
and we'll feature a performance by one of my favorite vocalists, Sara
Devine. Sara will be in the house to sing her latest release on Vega
Records "That's What Love Is", as well as her dance floor classic
"Special". Also, the woman behind the artwork on the latest Libation
flyer, Crystal Clarity, will be there painting live. Hope you can make it

The second installment of Sol Ascension at SOB's will be coming up on

Just want to take the time to thank everyone who

a truly magical one for me and I have to thank all those involved for

First, I want to thank everyone who came out to the Libation 2nd anniversary event w/Peven Everett. It was a fantastic night of music and Peven tore it down!!! On Thursday, May 8th we will celebrate the birthdays of our esteemed resident dj, Ian Friday and our resident man about town, Brian Polite of Afro Mosaic Soul. Joining us on this magical night will be none other than, JoshFromBlaze (Blaze Imprints). Josh is one half of the incomparable production duo Blaze, who are responsible for some of my favorite Global Soul joints including: "Found Love", "My Beat", and "Elevation". He'll be on the turntables that night while visual artist, Crystal Clarity does her thing live on canvass.

Hope all is well with each and everyone of you. Spring has begun and here in New York City you can feel the excitement in the air. April is an extremely significant month for me as both events I am involved with pull out all the stops to celebrate their anniversaries. If you don't live in New York or a surrounding area I suggest you get here immediately! :)

ALMA NYC is a Brazilian flavored event that will turn 4 years old on Friday, April 18th. Can't believe the time has flown by so fast! This party was my first official venture into NYC nightlife promotions and it has been an incredible ride ever since. I was blessed enough to cross paths with Joann Jimenez, DJ True and Miller Cruz who make up the ALMA family and who have since become my family. Together we have seen ALMA grow into one of the most festive and energetic events on the scene.

For the anniversary we have called upon world renown dj/producer King Britt to join True and Miller on the turntables. Britt is another one of my favorite spinners and also someone who has been extremely supportive of my musical endeavors, so I am honored to have him join us on that special night.

Libation (The Global Soul Experience) will be turning two on Thursday, April 24th in a major way when we feature a live concert by brilliantly talented recording artist/singer/musician, Peven Everett. I had the pleasure of hearing him live 2 years ago and his musical prowess blew me away! He will be joined by his band, Seance Divine, when we turn the cozy Sapphire Lounge into a modern-day juke joint.

For those who don't know the origins of Libation, it's an event that I co-founded with dj/producer and good friend, Ian Friday. We wanted to give birth to a night that would be a platform for Global Soul dj's, vocalists, dancers, visual artists, poets and musicians. Since then, the Libation family was extended when my brothers and sisters of Afro Mosaic Soul joined the team forming what we call "The Global Soul Trinity." As a unit we have put together some amazing events and have even performed with each other numerous times in and out of the city. I am constantly blown away by each of their individual talents, beautiful spirits, and am grateful to call them my family. Onward and upward!

Also, I want to take this time to thank all of you who have supported ALMA, Libation and Manchildblack. Just got back in town from an incredible experience at the Miami Winter
Music Conference. I've been 4 years in a row and this was by far the
best!

First, on Wednesday night the Libation/Brooklyn Mecca party filled
the Buck 15 Lounge to capacity and had lines of people waiting to get
in. (I warned ya'll to come early!) DJ's Ian Friday and Sabine played
their asses off to an international crowd of Global Soul heads.
Special thanks to my Afro Mosaic Soul family for hosting the night,
Concep for his exceptional live painting, Santiago for all his work in
helping to put this event together and Ecco for his dynamic live
performance. I also had the opportunity to perform my new song "You"
which will be out soon on Tea Party Music.

On Saturday we linked up with Melting Pot NYC for "The Global Soul
Sessions" at the Chelsea Hotel. The great thing about this event was
that it was an indoor/outdoor party so we had folks dancing in the
hotel lobby as well as on the front porch. There were mind-blowing
sets by some of my favorite dj's including: Rich Medina, DJ Spinna,
Kamala, Ali Coleman, MKL, Kervyn Mark and the incomparable Ian Friday.
Queen AaMinah, Mikiel and Mawu rocked the party with stirring
performances. I did another new track that's been getting a good buzz
titled "We Are". The songs lyrics were inspired by democratic primary
candidate Barack Obama and features stellar production by Lou Gorbea and
Chris Perez.

Another highlight for me was being able to perform at the King
Britt/Vikter Duplaix "Art of Seduction" party. This has always been
one of my favorite WMC events and I was honored to be there. Special
thanks to Britt and Greg Lucas for the invitation. Also, special shout
out to Afro Mosaic Soul for joining me in the performance.

Now that I'm back in NYC I've hit the ground running. We have two
monumental Libation events including April 10th with special guest dj
Herb Martin (Together In Spirit) and our 2nd year anniversary party on
April 24th with a live performance by musical genius Peven Everett
and his band. ARRIVE EARLY FOR THIS ONE AND DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN
YA!!!

ALMA NYC will celebrate its 4th year anniversary with guest dj
King Britt on April 18th. Britt has already told me he's digging deep
in the crates for that authentic Brazilian sound so this will be an
event not to be missed!

Lastly, mark Monday, May 5th on your calendars as I will be making my
Joe's Pub debut with my full band. This will be a special night as I
debut songs from my forthcoming My Mind's I EP. PICK UP TICKETS AT JOESPUB.COM.

Peace Fam,

Hope all is well. As I type I am up late checkin' out a classic
episode of Soul Train. This one looks like it took place in the
seventies when the fashion and dance moves were bananas! Watching this
is definitely an inspiration. I see nothing but beautiful people who
were fearless in give their bodies over to the music (the men actually
moved their hips and the women actually danced like dancers and not
strippers). I hear nothing but soulful grooves with incredible
arrangements, powerful voices and live instrumentation. And I feel
nothing but love and admiration for the community and culture that this
show was based on. With all that said, Soul Train has inspired me to
continue to put my best foot forward and do this music and party thang
to the fullest! In the month of March, I am honored to be involved
with multiple events where the sights and sounds mentioned above are
alive and well.

First up, Thursday, March 13th, Libation features a special live
performance by a woman that I greatly admire, Lady Alma. Not only can
she sang, but her live performances are other worldly! Her track with
4Hero, "Hold It Down" was my anthem for about a year.

On Friday, March 21st, ALMA NYC celebrates DJ True's birthday with the
"Deeper Than Disco" edition. DTD was a hugely popular radio show that
True did for over eight years on WHCR FM and partly on Sirius Satellite
Radio. True is one of the most eclectic dj's I know, so be ready to
hear him, Miller Cruz and guest Manny Santana (Home Party) spin
neo-brazilian fusion and beyond.

As many of you know March is the month of Miami's Winter Music
Conference. This will be my fourth year going and will be my busiest.
Not only are we bringing Libation and ALMA to Miami, but I will be
performing live at 4 separate events. Since this message is long enough
I will go into details about those events later this week. You can

Although we're coming to the end of Black History Month, I invite all of you to the event where black culture is always celebrated - Libation!

If you missed the Erotic Valentine's Day Bash you missed a hot one!!! DJ Brian Coxx (Soulgasm) joined Ian Friday on the turntables and tore it down! Libation artist-in-residence, Concep, painted live on the body parts of willing participants and belly dancer, Oshun-Goddess of the Sea, graced us with her tantalizing moves. Also, special shout out to Nicole who conducted love astrology readings in the gallery. The reading she gave me was so spot on it was scary!

This Thursday will be all about the music when Ian goes it alone and spins Global Soul as only he can. Afro Mosaic Soul will be on hand to make sure you're having a good time and Concep and the Collaborative Arts Project will take an empty canvass and bring it to life with their brilliance.

Also, we're excited to announce that we'll be bringing Libation to 2008's Miami's Winter Music Conference for two very special events! First up will be the Brooklyn Mecca Meets Libation party on Wednesday, March 26 at Buck 15 from 7pm-12am. I suggest arriving early cuz' last year was packed! DJ's Ian Friday and Sabine will spin, AMS will host, Concep will paint and yours truly will perform some new shit! Then on Saturday, March 29th from 1pm to 9pm, we team with Melting Pot NYC for another event not to be missed! DJ's Ian Friday, Rich Medina, Spinna, Kervyn Mark and Kamala will spin, and Queen AaMinah and I will perform live. So if your going to the conference make sure to add these on your schedule. Best of all, both events are FREEEEEEE!!!

It's that time again ya'll! The next installment of Libation is this Thursday, January 24th at Sapphire Lounge.

Last time we welcomed guest dj's The Ladies of Ubiquita (Reborn, Moni & Selly) who tore it down with resident Ian Friday. Also, the insanely talented visual artist Crystal Clarity joined the equally brilliant Concep in capturing the magical vibe of the party on canvass.

This time around, Ian Friday will rock all night long to celebrate the lives of a few very special individuals. Ebony Kuumba, a founding member of the dynamic Afro Mosaic Soul will be celebrating her birthday, as well as original Libation host and constant supporter, Toija Riggins. This night will also be a post MLK Day celebration, so there will be plenty of cake to go around.

Since Libation is not just a party, but a platform for all facets of Global Soul Culture, I want to take this time to shine some light on a few incredibly talented folk who are doing the damn thang!

First up, our resident DJ Ian Friday has a new single out on his Tea Party Music label entitled "Fight for Love". Afro Mosaic Soul's own Gi'Bril Kuyateh is an emerging dj and producer with his own unique style. The GiKu Experience is his brand new monthly mix show on the Giant Step Jukebox that includes selections for finicky tastemakers with that affluent need to hear timeless music. It is an eclectic blend of abstract jazz, global soul, afro-beat, funk, reggae, classic soul, trip-hop, rock, and other genres that fit that soulful soundscape. Its purpose, is to educate the world with real music from all over. Another one to listen out for is Libation supporter, Adam Cruz. Adam is a producer and dj who has just launched his own label, Mixtape Sessions Music. This indie label will highlight and showcase music that crosses taste boundaries and will feature a globally appealing roster of musicians that express their art and love of music in the form of storytelling. The class act label currently features four artist's who's musical genre's include classic dance, inspirational, jazz, R&B, and soul music. The first release is an eclectic ep by talented vocalist Flora Cruz.

What'cha know about ALMA?!

If you know like I know, you'll be there on Friday and get there early!

After the insane turnout for our NYE White Party, this weeks event promises to be more of the same as we welcome another one of my personal favorites, DJ Bobbito Garcia aka Kool Bob Love. The true definition of a renaissance man, Bobbito has done everything from writing to acting and even dances with Rock Steady Crew. On friday he will be spinning along side our resident dj's True and Miller Cruz for a night of Neo-Brazilian Fusion. I have to say that Bobbito was extremely supportive of my first release on West End Records, particularly the track "Rain" and I owe him much respect for that.

Speaking of releases, there should be another Manchildblack record out in the next couple of months as well as an ep. I've been hard at work on quite a few musical projects and can't wait to have them available for your ears.

For my Libation heads, we'll be back at Sapphire Lounge next Thursday the 24th when resident DJ Ian Friday will rock all night long. More on that next time.

My birthday party at Libation in December was insane when two of my favorite dj's, Ian Friday & Rich Medina spun an eclectic night of true Global Soul. If you know me then you know that I rarely take to the dance floor, but on this night I was truly "WORKIN' UP A BLACK SWEAT!" I was also honored to have the very Fly Lady Di painting live during the party and, of course, Afro Mosaic Soul was there to wreak havoc on the dance floor. January marks the return of Libation as a bi-monthly party, taking place every 2nd & 4th Thursday at Sapphire Lounge. For the first event, resident dj Ian Friday is joined on the 1's and 2's by the three lovely Ladies of Ubiquita (Reborn, Selly & Moni). If you ever had the privilege of going to one of their parties back in the day at Guernica, then you know that this is an event not to be missed. Also, on hand will be incredibly talented visual artist, Concep painting live with his crew, Collaborative Arts Project.

One of my new year's resolutions is to dance more often, so I hope to see you at this event so that you can hold me to it.
