Can you believe that we’re at the end of 2008?! It came waaaay too fast! This past year was bananas for me and highlighted by Barack Obama’s historic election, Libation’s move from Sapphire Lounge to Sullivan Room, the birth of Sol Ascension at SOB’S, and the release of the My Mind’s I EP on Mixtape Sessions Music. 2009 is going to be even better and we’re starting it off with a bang!!!
On Thursday, January 8th, Libation will return to Sullivan Room in a major way! For its first party of 09 resident DJ and global soul guru Ian Friday will be joined on the decks by one of the worlds most respected dj’s, Tony Humphries. In his long and acclaimed career, this legend has held down residencies at New Jersey’s Club Zanzibar, London’s Ministry of Sound and Italy’s Echoes. Next up, on Thursday, January 22nd, we will celebrate the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama at Libation when Ian shares the turntables with another of my personal favorties, King Britt. Sol Ascension returns to SOB’S for its third installment on Saturday, January 31st to celebrate the birthday of the always eclectic DJ Spinna! Spinna will be on the decks all night and we’ll have a rare live performance by the singer/songwriter of such massive global soul jams as "I Cling" and Spinna’s "You Should Be Loving Me", Ovasoul7. On the music front, I will have my first release of the year out on Deepa Grooves called "Natural High". Look for it in January on Traxsource.com. Also, I’ll be performing live next month, bringing the global soul experience to Jersey with DJ Ian Friday and Afro Mosaic Soul. Details for this event will soon come.
Also, people have been asking about what’s going on this weekend and for New Year’s Eve. I will be laying low to get ready for 2009, but strongly recommend checking out Deepa Grooves at Public Assembly this Saturday night in Williamsburg.
