Hope all is well with each and everyone of you. Spring has begun and here in New York City you can feel the excitement in the air. April is an extremely significant month for me as both events I am involved with pull out all the stops to celebrate their anniversaries. If you don't live in New York or a surrounding area I suggest you get here immediately! :)
ALMA NYC is a Brazilian flavored event that will turn 4 years old on Friday, April 18th. Can't believe the time has flown by so fast! This party was my first official venture into NYC nightlife promotions and it has been an incredible ride ever since. I was blessed enough to cross paths with Joann Jimenez, DJ True and Miller Cruz who make up the ALMA family and who have since become my family. Together we have seen ALMA grow into one of the most festive and energetic events on the scene.
For the anniversary we have called upon world renown dj/producer King Britt to join True and Miller on the turntables. Britt is another one of my favorite spinners and also someone who has been extremely supportive of my musical endeavors, so I am honored to have him join us on that special night.
Libation (The Global Soul Experience) will be turning two on Thursday, April 24th in a major way when we feature a live concert by brilliantly talented recording artist/singer/musician, Peven Everett. I had the pleasure of hearing him live 2 years ago and his musical prowess blew me away! He will be joined by his band, Seance Divine, when we turn the cozy Sapphire Lounge into a modern-day juke joint.
For those who don't know the origins of Libation, it's an event that I co-founded with dj/producer and good friend, Ian Friday. We wanted to give birth to a night that would be a platform for Global Soul dj's, vocalists, dancers, visual artists, poets and musicians. Since then, the Libation family was extended when my brothers and sisters of Afro Mosaic Soul joined the team forming what we call "The Global Soul Trinity." As a unit we have put together some amazing events and have even performed with each other numerous times in and out of the city. I am constantly blown away by each of their individual talents, beautiful spirits, and am grateful to call them my family. Onward and upward!
Also, I want to take this time to thank all of you who have supported ALMA, Libation and Manchildblack. I invite you to take part in both of these events as well as my release party/performance on Monday, May 5th at Joe's Pub. The show will mark my first show of the year with my full-band and dj Ian Friday will kick the night off with an opening set.
